Reach For the Sky and Do it NOW

Why You Have Come Here

If you have arrived here seeking sanctity or blessing, then you will have to provide your own cloak and dagger. I only confess to the daily struggle to treat the world with the respect it has earned in my estimation. We all look to the sky and wonder. I feel the whisper of the ages calling and know not what flutter or ripple calls true. My approach is to touch your life in only the manner in which you prefer. As we all must suffer at some time, then I feel we all deserve, also, the right to laugh. My smile is my weapon, and at times my words also I use to defend.

A Cheater Post

I wrote a long family letter and I am going to cheat by posting it here also. Very few of my friends and family list actually read my blog which is a good thing or I might lose what few friends I have. My family is soooooo stuck with me!
Did any of you by chance see the video on youtube before it was yanked of a local newscaster asking Sarah Palin how she would handle the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? She replied that she would probably invite him to her home, make some cookies, and get down to world business in an informal atmosphere. This man would eat her alive with the raw cookie dough. I watch her all the time just because I have a fondness for watching idiots and their trainwreck interviews. I have a HUGE respect for Churchill, and I don't even think the world should spin if someone calls them both politicians!

Friends and Family,
Sunday, I celebrated my 50th age with a real party. My last one was when my 4 friends came over when I was 18-from that point on, I was married and a child on the way. So for 29 years, my parties were Smurfs, carebears, horses, GI Joe, kegs, and cookouts.

My day was filled with food, cake, punch that needed some spike, PRESENTS, friends, family, and babies. I missed Jake terribly-the weather kept him grounded in the east. We couldn't have reached Memphis to get him back to the airport anyway as we have another 5-10 in of snow today!(depending on where you are in Arkansas) I would have just kept him if he could have just reached us, but his job at Barneys in NY might have frowned on this maneuver.

My Who Dat Saints won & I collected money to have for my Italy trip! Now, I am not really a big gambler, but I had SEVERAL friends who wanted to place small wagers to make it interesting!

My hair cooperated by following Andy's YouTube tutorial. All and all, it was a smashing good weekend(one small note-Reesa the grandgirl began to say "papa") I'll send more pictures tomorrow!

Okay, the snow-I would send you some pictures, but they would look just like last week's and the week before and the week before......We old-timers know that fogs in August mean snows in January and February. I counted 7 full-blown fogs in that most august of months!

I have had the best time following up on one of Malcolm's blogs about Obama and the mystery of his birth. Obama was my candidate, one of the main reasons being that Sarah Palin froze my blood. I had a great fear of some butterfly wings fluttering somewhere in the universe, and she would end up in charge. I love biographies and the circumstances that lead people to their places in the universe. I also love a mystery. I ended up reading for hours yesterday on the shadows in Obama's youth. Check it out if I have managed Malcolm's tutorial, and the link leads you to the right place.

I have very little else to tell unless you count the magnificent cat fight that ensued yesterday. I guess that we were all feeling the effects of a low pressure system; that itchy, "disaster is going to strike any second" anxiety that crawls down your neck at such times. We have 5 male cats, and one lonely angst-ridden female. Between 2 barns and 2 huge porches, everyone has their own domain, and it works for them, usually!
At about 2:00 pm, they congregated on the front porch, and hair, ears, pieces of tails and what-not began to litter the boards. Since my grandmother used to throw water on fighting cats, I tried that. The liquid just seemed to trigger more hormones.

I really didn't want any one of them seriously hurt, so I called for Rebel. He came bounding up the steps, took one "leader of the pack" look, and jumped right in the middle of the melee, grabbing Sambo by the tail. It takes a real man to grab Sambo. This cat weighs more than a small pony. The minute that Rebel had this tiger by the tail, then every other feline headed for the hills. This left Rebel.

I'm watching the whole thing and as Rebel spins around to keep his juggler vein from danger, I tell him that this was how Thomas Jefferson felt about slavery, once you let go of that tail then all hell is going to break loose and you had better be ready. Rebel, being less cognizant of history than I, just simply threw Sambo right at me. I had time to shut the glass storm door, and Sambo hit it with a mighty thud. Landing on the porch, he shook his head several times, tried to check on his tail, and stared Rebel in the eyeballs.
Rebel wouldn't leave because I was there. Sambo decided that he would incorporate some valor and walk past the big, red dog. Rebel looked at me, grinned, and loped off to take care of the next big crisis on Oliver Hill.

Now I could have left this story out or simply said that we had an animal fight, but I am very bored. My nurse Nazi just called to make sure that I wasn't out trying to take pictures so you, family and friends, got a long-winded "tail"

With many thanks for reading,

Jeanie Desiree Scott Oliver

p.s. perhaps if you are not busy, I would love to hear from you!

p.p.s.- I am going to copy and paste my Facebook status just because so many of my young friends have sent me private messages about their own romances!

Tuesday morning Facebook status update:

"Yep-my next book will be on marriage-Eddy looked at the picture that Megon took and I put on my profile. He said, "you don't look like that!" "Well, I did that afternoon with my hair done and make-up on!" I asked him if he wanted me to do my hair and make-up everyday. His reply, "Nah, that's okay, all cats are gray in the dark anyway!" Whenever he says this, it always makes me laugh and tease him. Which is why he says it in the firstplace!

Bless their young hearts, those private messages, for the most part, expressed horrification. Several had no idea what " all cats are gray in the dark, anyway" meant or to what Eddy was referring. They think that I should take issue with my husband, and can't imagine that their own men should be allowed to say things like the above. I replied to one, "if you just laugh at something like this, he might be around for 30 years or so" She wrote back she expected her spouse to compliment her and send roses and such. Well, I have had some roses through the years, but I would personally rather be blown a kiss when I run a catagory in Jeopardy or finish the Sunday crossword puzzle without help. After some chit chat back and forth, I decided that maybe it was a generational fault, and I will write that book now!

I know, I missed you guys, too. Amy says that as soon as she gets her house built then we can congregate there and have scrapbooking parties. She doesn't want to scrap, but she said that she would cook for us. I can't wait!
