One of the best things that I learned about from my wonderful daughter-in-law was the game of Bunco. My resolutions for the new year included getting a Bunco group started and I DID it. We have now met for the last 3 months and I must say that we are getting the hang of it all.
You roll the dice, eat a lot of food, drink a little wine, and soon everybody is laughing and competitive! This month we figured out the high and low Bunco scoring, and worked our way through 3 sets. I once again was the low scorer. We have discovered that I am a Jim Dandy Blackjack player, but rolling dice is not in my cards! I have never written a letter to the editor of our local paper; however, I'm seriously considering it. The issue is the new bill introduced by our new Congresswoman-it concerns allowing people to sell home-cooked baked goods and such for profit. I really feel, besides the issues of health endangerment, that letting individuals set up on the street across from our bakery isn't in the best interests of our small town-our bakery had to invest in all kinds of safe commercial kitchen items to meet the law, she pays taxes, rent, and such to make a living. I feel like this is the same as telling me I can teach in my home with no degree, no education, charge students what I want, pay no taxes on that income, etc.
Oh, wait, we've already done this in America, and it's sincerely damaging our school systems as they loose students and money to home schooling.
I wrote my governor and my congresspeople recently about both of these issues.
Still pondering the letter to the editor, though......

I have been spending considerable time working with my camera in manual mode. It seems that I can get a shots that are closer to my old 35mm camera. I found a great guide to my Nikon D40 on the web. A gentleman, Ken Rockwell, has a site and now an ap on my iPhone that takes one through each setting on my camera. Every explanation is succinct and has exact pics of my camera so that I can work and practice in each mode.
These shots are from February when it seemed that we had snow every other day. Tiger can beat Sambo to the top of the willow, especially since Eddy cut them back in preparation for the spring. I wish that I could get a pic sometime of Sambo along side Maggie, our small black dog.....Sambo is approx. the same size!

Baby, in the snow, could only be found by locating her grey patches.

I have worked and worked to set up my Google account so that I could update my blog from my iPhone. I am sure that I am just one step away and then......NO.......it won't work.
oh, well! I will just haul out this unwieldy laptop and do some blogging from it.

Spring is about to open her welcoming arms and this weekend, with no grandgirl, and great temps, I am dragging the bossman out to help me spiff up all my flower beds.

I have added riding a bike on a prescribed training at the gym. This is really cool as it's computer takes me up and down hills for 30 minutes. Riding a bike is something that I can do for real around here as soon as we find just the right one as they sell ones specially designed for gravel roads. My doctors at Mayo clinic really pushed for the walking and bike riding.

I'll be out tomorrow to get pics from my yard to post on my blog.

My goal was to start today on a blitz to blog. I have given up Facebook for Lent, and need to get back in touch with my journaling on this venue.

The news is on this moment and as a watch more devastation and nuclear worry in Japan, I hope the fact that I care somehow, somewhere, touches someone.

well, I must go as I want to make sure Eddy finds his way out of the house to his poker game and I get the tv!!

I was reading Waka this morning and the post was about the lack of women contributors to Wikipedia.
Well, you know, my brain just isn't wired correctly, or maybe being raised with my father who I think was anticipating an eldest son, or as my sister posted this morning, our father would look at us when we whined(bitched) and say, "well, sis, if that's not bitching, it'll do 'till bitching comes along!", or having a mother who, God forbid, in the South, went to nursing school, in 1964 with 3 girls and left daddy ALONE to cook for himself......whatever the reasons, the four Scott girls have managed to do just fine without feeling set upon by the male world.
As a matter of fact, we sit around and lament the fact that if everyone would just quit talking about the whole gender issue, we women would soon take over the world!
You know the whole, " I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and never, ever let you forget you're a man" sexy siren song commercial from way back when kind of empowerment that bottles of wine can give 4 sisters!!

As I was at the gym this morning, my friend posted this on his facebook, and I stole it. I stole it because it makes me laugh, and I've been thinking of reasons for men to be happier all day!

Sach has been working so hard. The legal parade marches on to its own drummer. The fact that another princess is due in June has him in even more of a "driven" mode. I hear his father telling him to slow down, and yet, he is exactly like his father.
In fact, both boys get that driven, "I must be a success by 30 from their father".
I, on the other hand, made sure they knew their Shakespeare, traveled, studied philosophy, could both ride horses hell-bent for glory, could quote great poets, and never missed a free throw!
As a matter of fact, for 2 people that the whole county just shook their heads and said, they won't last, have nothing in common, we did pretty well!

A Swirl of Silence Interupted

I am looking at the snow as it breathes upon the Ozark morning. It should be a poster for tranquility. It's not.

I just had a most unsettling conversation with a friend via the phone. She is disturbed that she is my friend on Facebook and that I had posted a link to Jake's interview with a style magazine in NYC. This particular set of interviews is about ordinary people whose closets are nominated for their style. In the clip, Jake talks about being gay.

Well, you know, there are maybe 5 people in the surrounding 10,000 people who don't know this. When he came out, it was a smash to all notions of the south in America as he was an All-state basketball player who led his team to a state championship. He was a team-roper, and calf-roper of such calibre that he won trucks, saddles, thousands of dollars. He traveled all over Europe on his winnings.
So it wasn't a mild, slight twitch of the closet door. It hit the wall with a bang. We try not to make other people uncomfortable, but the time is past that I won't post some of his outstanding things happening in New York in his life now.

I went with a deep breath and just a simple, "you know what, just unfriend me"- No, she wants it taken down as people shouldn't be exposed to this aberration.

I lost all perspective. It brought back every feeling of fear from the past when I thought someone would try to kill him, the fears that we would all fall apart as a family, still half the family won't say his name, and I told her to fuck off. To never acknowledge us again, to never say my name or my child's name again, to never let me see her again in person. It felt good.

Anger is sometimes good.

I'll look at the snow later.

photo challenges

Week 3 of the 52 week project and another challenge met, albeit almost to to my demise!!! I was focusing on the legs this week and, of course, the clothing that I'm wearing has a story. Before I get to the story, I was on the stairs with the camera on tripod, shooting into the the mirror on the landing. I had sprinkled water on the mi...rror in preparation, and off we go. Just as I get the first pops of the remote, my backdoor opens upexpectedly to admit the UPS man, staring up the stairs at a Mimi in miniskirt taking pictures of herself. I can only say, "Thank God, he didn't come in while I was shooting the ones laying down with my legs on the wall! LOL!

Now the skirt....several years ago in July, Jake was home for the summer, when he go word that MTV wanted to do an interview of the his team about the work they had done in preparing costumes for the music group, Panic At The Disco. He was going to fly out of Memphis, and Eddy and I were going to drive through McDonald's and come home. I had a purse, some make-up, a pair of black stiletto pumps,(left under the seat from a church function) a pair of flip-flops, and was wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

At Ash Flat, I remarked that I wished I could have gone with Jake to see his college and New York again. Eddy swings into the parking lot of Wal-Mart, says call the airline, we did, I could get a seat on Jake's flight; we left Eddy to find someone, anyone to bring him back to Salem, and I fly to NYC......with only the above items for 4 days. All the cash we had, was to be used for my ticket, cabs, cars to the airport, at least SOME food, and somehow we would get me some underwear, a dress, and this great purple skirt for $5.00 from H & M.

Maybe there is an unrightness to thrusting the Great One's words upon our young quarterback, but Ryan Mallet almost did what others thought was impossible. He rallied the Hogs from a 28-10 half-time smashing to the ball and down 31-26 with a few seconds to go. He threw an interception. This does not interfere with his greatness. There is not a doubt in our minds that he will move on to a professional career.

The most important aspect of having greatness thrust upon you, is can you handle the future knowing people expect you to be great. We think he can. I might be prejudice. His father was a coach at our tiny little high school early in his career. They attended church with us. The family support is phenomenal.
I suppose all greatness, however, is a hurry up and wait kinda game, though.

We all started a new year, and I started a new photo challenge. I will be doing a self portrait once a week. Sooooo, I decided to try again on my blog. We went through a spell at the end of the summer when she or he wouldn't let me post.

Slowly, ever so slowly, Facebook replaced my blog in my affections. The problem with Facebook is the lack of expression and no way to really take a look back at your life. Maybe this is good and maybe this is bad. Who knows!

But, I was reading Duff and Waka over the holidays, and felt and overwhelming need to get back on here and EXPRESS sometimes.

So I'm off on a walk as soon as Eddy gets home(this is his first day back to work after 2 months off with shoulder surgery) and maybe I'll have more to say later.....

If nothing else, my opinions on football will have to be clear as my beloved Razorbacks take to the field tomorrow night in the Sugar Bowl to beat up on Ohio State. Whoooo Pig Sooooeeeee!

Oh, 2 things- I photoshopped out the black circles under my eyes from being so sick and I have in the free pair of cat-eyed green contacts that I couldn't see out of, but they make me look creepy! It just wouldn't be kosher to have an ordinary self-portrait. My theme all year will be colors in my clothing and I'll tell a story about each. The fine woolen hat that I have on in the pic came to me as a gift from mom and dad. That year, they had been to Ireland, and I set my head toward making it overseas with them the next time they went on one of their treks. And, voila, this year, I crossed the ocean for the first time for 10 days in Italy and Switzerland. This year,2011, we are spending 10 days in Scotland tracking down the Scotts and McClellans! And any other Mac we can find in a kilt.....

We were more than thrilled that our friend, Jeff Hodges, would bring his family to our humble abode. Above you see his wife, Sun-Ae. She is so gorgeous, (not to imply that Jeff-er-y couldn't catch such a beauty) that you forget that you haven't known her forever. So what do looks have to do with conversation with a new friend? Nothing, absolutely nothing! I just think that it is worth noting her looks as her face seems to glow. Especially when she is interacting with her children or Jeff. That's how it's supposed to be. And that is that! The world according, not to Garp, but Jeanie.

As usual, my uploading pics to my blog is dsylexic.....so obviously En-Uk slowly made friends with Baby Cakes, the new mother cat. I had made videos of This, the yellow circus cat for En-Uk, and wouldn't you know it.. This was out on the prowl last Tuesday night. He didn't show for his grand debut. En-Uk and I were quite put out by this, but we were soon diverted from this no-show by Sa-Rah becoming inundated with Arkansas ticks in the barn!

Sa-Rah and En-Uk went with us(Mom, Dad, and myself) to the rodeo on Wednesday night. The night following our dinner at our house. It was incredible fun explaining the rodeo events to these two as they are sharp as tacks. Sa-Rah and I learned that we both love Lady Gaga and I even got up and danced to Beyonce. Ahhhhh, life is so good when I have children around me. It might be a good thing that these two live halfway around the world, or I can see "Uncle Eddy" and "Aunt Jeanie" spoiling them rotten!!

If you were to write your own life onto the naked page, would honesty guide your pen? Perhaps, you would start out just recording memories. This is an exercise I used when teaching about biographies. Choose a topic: who says that your bio as to begin with, "I was born in Thayer, Missouri on January 30, 1960.

Instead focus on a specific memory and build your life around the heart of it, and slowly weave interlocking strands into a life that people will recognize. If your life will be sticky and touch multitudes of others, then include a family tree in the beginning. Let the reader know that your life has been full of experiences by a chart of wild, crazy, strict, Baptists, Presbyterians, and Methodists!
Then begin to record memories. Forget chapters and chapters of I was born, they were born, we lived here and there.If you are writing, you were probably born! So people are looking for a story.

Daddy says , "she's telling a wild one". Well, my perspective of being taught "Jermiah Was a Bullfrog" is different not wild. I was in elementary school and he was an old man!!From my point of view, being told to stay in from recess because I shouldn't teach other innocent 1969 classmates about helping a frog drink his wine remains HUGE in my report on life. I was smart and did not reveal this stumble on my behavior record to dad until he was 76!Jim Scott did not raise dummies. Get in trouble at school, get in double trouble at home. Telling him last night, he pretty much can't spank me or ground me anymore. Moral-save some of your school troubles for later in life so you can shock your perfect parents!!!

I took one of the activities that I had used in class with reading to see if she was interested since it is in puzzle form. We just started with identifying the nouns. Amazing how she responded and the memory she incorporated is phenomenal. I know what you are thinking! All grandmothers think their grandgirls are the smartest ever. However, since I am highly trained in gifted and talented, you WILL just have to take my word for it!!! LOL!

One of those weekends in which you would stop time if possible. Reesa, at 19 months, is talking at such a rate that you had best watch EXACTLY what comes from your mouth. I dropped the apple sauce-I felt fortunate to only say, "Gosh Darnit"- a beautiful little voice piped up from the high chair, "Gos Darnit, Mimi"!!

In the picture above, she is wiping her face after lunch; then she wiped Papa's and Mimi's and the monkey's and the baby doll's. Gotta love a clean kid.

Madeline, named for NeeNee Scott, is my sister Susan's daughter. She is very intent and focused. Such a wonderful young lady who has been elected President of her junior high student council. We are so proud of she and Oliver.

Momma is paying attention to me. Dad is very intent on the action in the arena. My sisters and myself are so fortunate in the DNA department! (Mom, that is)

My nephew, Tanner, is a scholar, gentleman, and a cowboy. He has won each time we have been this summer. Soooooo proud of him.

My nieces, Amy and Maddy, and nephew, Oliver. Our whole clan does love a camera!

I was up this morning at 4:45 am and walked my 3 miles from 6:00-7:00. I have to drop the last 10 pounds and be in marathon shape to attempt Italy!! Well, maybe not marathon, but able to keep up with my parents which is about the same thing. So I have until Sept. 27 to achieve this Herculean feat-maybe Hercules will pop up beside me on those August mornings!

I have watered all the plants on the front porch, although I think a simple fan blowing toward the house would create a rain-forest shower affect.

This year, I decided that I would figure out my own settings for the camera at the Salem Park Fireworks. In the past, I have just used the auto setting for fireworks, and it hardly seemed that I was learning about the camera or photography in general. So......this year, I did my own manipulations. As you will be able to see, I am still climbing upon the learning curve. Several times the curve just pitched me in the dirt. I overexposed, underexposed, too fast with the shutter, too slow, and aperatures and F/stop settings are kicking my butt! Oh well, one firecracker at a time.

My two nephews-Cline is on the far side and will wrestle the steer to the ground. Tanner is nearest to the camera. He is called the hazer and it is his job to keep the steer in tight between the two horses.

The kids, Madeline and Oliver, have gone back to Indiana today. Their dad, Kenn, picked them up and brought another family treasure to reside at my house until some other sister decides that she wants it. It is the buffet that belonged to my Grandmother Scott.

I know how these things go, though......it will live at my house, along with other numerous pieces of furniture and what-nots, until whomever forgets about it all together. My house is a nursery for forgotten, "oh, I want that, but I don't have room for it right now" relics.

So I polished it up and I'll start sending out reminder texts to sister Cindy until eventually I'll adopt it. Maybe, just maybe, she'll read this post and get the hint!!!!! You just gotta love siblings!

I haven't blogged since June 19-the greatest blessing in this fact is that I feel so much than I did last summer. It has been a long year of eating oatmeal and air! However, the weight loss means that I am able to be out and about. For a year and half, my friends were all located on my laptop. I am able with the knowledge gained over the last 2 and 1/2 years to manage my condition better. I can also manage my life better around the POTS Syndrome.

Another detriment to my blog has been my facebook account. I can upload 50 pictures in a heartbeat, and they are viewed by all of my friends and family. Ultimately, my camera has connected me to old and new acquaintances.

I was used to being surrounded my people all day long. Closely surrounded! Nothing tighter than a classroom so packed that desks must be moved for the teacher to get from the chalkboard to the reading table in the back. Facebook gives me a feeling that people are just right around the corner and there is instant feedback.

I'm not giving up my blog-it's just that I have more life to live today!!! Thank goodness as my grandmother would have said!

I'll close with the pics above taken at my nephew's rodeo last Wednesday night-I actually went to a rodeo that started at 8:00 at night-wow, last year I was in bed for most of the month of July. Each day is a challenge that I intend to meet head-on..........

My "miracle gro" consists of aged chicken or rabbit manure. I make manure tea from cow patties. Put a couple of dry ones in a 5 gallon bucket and let them dissolve and form "tea"
Add at base of veggies and flowers!

Resting today as Julia took me to West Plains yesterday. We ate at PIZZA HUT! We did many things and I am so thankful for such a marvelous friend. (PIZZA HUT) You know that list that your husband will help with, but....when he finds out that Julia will take you, then you save those things!(PIZZA HUT) By the time we made it to Wal-Mart, I was pretty trembly, so while Julia stood in line to return something, I sat on the bench right outside of customer service-5 elderly ladies and me. They seemed very offended with me when the next 1908 graduate came up and there wasn't room for her. I started to jump up and then thought,"jumping won't go well here". I'll fall over on one of them, they will perhaps become offended and whop the skin off the top of my head!
So while we had a stare down, the one on the end made a move for her basket and I was saved from having to call Sach to bail me out! On the way home, I wondered if an Arkansas attorney could bail me out from Missouri. Or more importantly, if he would let me think it over for 24 hours for accidently getting into an altercation in a public place with ladies that still use pin curls? Did I mention PIZZA HUT?

Well-I'm the luckiest girl in the world cause it could be life-threatening or something.
Instead they are dong all the testing for tick fever-feel like you have beaten me and the headache with it is worse than a migraine and I should be an EXPERT on that!! LOL
Have a funny rash and fluctuating temperature-apparently all signs to get the attention of the OMC staff. They won't be surprised anymore if I turn up with the skin of a crocodile and the head of an elephant

Today is a sad day as Reesa won't be here to spend 4 days with us. Sach is very sick with a problem of swelling in his colon. We are headed over there in the middle of the night as soon as Eddy gets off work. Thank goodness it wasn't something horrible as he called and you knew immediately from his voice that it wasn't going to be good. However, as I slowly put all the toys away, some part of my heart cried for the lost opportunity. Oh, well......

Reesa was soooo excited to run around in her bare feet in the wet grass. The neighborhood was quite and serene as she and I played catch out in the yard. It was still about 80 degrees and dripping. She stopped and pointed out a bug for Mammy to pick up. At your service, Madam!

Here she is sitting in the front seat of Papa's new truck as he figures out the massive computer in the dash. It's almost like having the car from Knight Rider!

Only everything is a woman's voice asking if you want to turn here or call this person or where the nearest pizza is to be found.

Actually the bottom picture came first as she put herself in Papa's boots as I was washing up a few supper dishes. Then we located the bow and took a proper picture.
